Specializing in opera, he has conducted all the traditional operas in numerous performances: Traviata, Nabucco, Rigoletto, Trovatore, Aida, Simon Boccanegra, Falstaff, Otello, Ernani, Madama Butterfly, Tosca, La Boheme, Manon Lescaut, Turandot, Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, Cavalleria Rusticana, Pagliacci, Adriana Lecouvreur, Barbiere di Siviglia, Carmen, Don Pasquale, Elisir d’amore, Lucia di Lammermoore, Norma and Cenerentola.

His great success obtained in Seoul where he conducted La Traviata in the Seoul Arts Center with the Soprano Mariella Devia is one to remember.

In 2009 he was invited by the Italian Embassy in Manama (Kingdom of Bahrain-Arab Emirates) to conduct an opera concert as part of the Italian Festival.

In 2013 he participated in the production of Nabucco at the Beijing Opera with Placido Domingo and was Assistant to Maestro Chung in the preparation of Verdi’s Requiem at the Arena di Verona and in co-production with the Orchestra della Fenice in Venice. In September of the same year he condu cted, with great success, an opera concert at the Lincoln Center in New York. In 2014 he made his debut in the Arena di Verona opera season conducting “La Vedova Allegra” at the Teatro Filarmonico.

In March 2015 he received a prestigious award as Conductor at the Teatro Regio di Parma where he was awarded the 2015 Opera Grand Prix (Conductor Category). In the same year he returned to Beijing (NCPA) for the production of Andrea Chenier. 2015 also saw him make a successful debut at the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari with Carmen and Tosca. The same theatre invited him back for a symphonic concert with a performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No.7.

Also appreciated in the symphonic field, he conducted in Mexico the “Wonderful Mandarin”, Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra and Malher’s 5th Symphony; in Russia Respighi’s “Roman Fountains”; in Brazil Tchaikowsky’s Symphony n.4 and Dvorak’s 8th Symphony; in Hungary Respighi’s “The Pines of Rome” and Beethoven’s Symphony n.9; in the Czech Republic Dvorak’s Symphony n.9 and other 19th century masterpieces.

In November 2016 he made his successful debut in the Golden Hall (Golden Hall) of the Vienna Musikverein and conducted a concert in Macau (China) in the Orchestra’s symphonic season. In 2017, among others, he made his debut at the Hong Kong Opera with the Barber of Seville and at the Basel Theatre with Nabucco.

In 2018 he made his debut in Japan (co-production with Teatro Verdi di Trieste), conducting Lucia di Lammermoore, with the Orchestra del Maggio Fiorentino in the Sala Verdi at the Conservatorio di Milano and with the Virtuosi del Teatro at La Scala di Milano (Fabrizio Meloni soloist).

In 2019 he conducted concerts in Spain, Poland, Turkey and made his debut at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste with Mozart’s Bastiano e Bastiana.

Roberto Gianola has also recorded the CD Stradivarius with the Orchestra “I Pomeriggi Musicali” of Milan and a CD for the magazine “Amadeus” with the Symphonic Orchestra of Sanremo and music by Respighi distributed throughout Italy.
